Forest Trauma - Ice Storm Alders felled by the ice storm

John surveys the damageBitter winter ice storm - Christmas '96

Followed by demonic swirling winds, the storm brought down 30 acres of 25 year old alder trees.

John conducted several survey expeditions during the next months to assess the damage. Most of the alder forests on the west slope were obliterated, trails covered in debris.

More than a year later, timber roads were cleared and the road system was expanded to permit forestry operations.

On the east side, in damaged alder groves, hundreds of new cedar trees were planted.
